The Crayon Challenge
Color the World with Quilts
Logistics: Choose 3 color crayons (blind selection)
- The three crayons represent the colors you may use in your fabric choice(s)
- You may use as many fabrics as you choose with these three crayon colors
- Your fabric may have a pattern in the colors of your 3 crayons and/or a neutral tones
- A fabric pattern can not include more colors than the crayon colors and neutrals described below
- You must use at least one of the three colors you select
- Your colors must make up at least 51% of your project
Neutral colors
- You may use any of the following FOUR neutral tones as patterns and/or solids. Neutral tones can’t exceed 49% of the project.
- Black
- White
- Gray
- Cream
- Also neutral – tone on tone (i.e. white on white)
- If you are unsure if your neutral tone is one of these colors then it is NOT one of these neutral tones. For example, If I need to ask a friend, “Is this color cream?” the answer is “NO.”
The Project:
- Make a pieced fabric item – does not have to be a quilt.
- Project size must be at least as long as a ruler (12”) and no longer than a yard (36”). It may be of any height.
Winning:
- You may enter more than one project but you must only use the crayon colors you have selected for all entries.
- You may win in only one of the six judging categories.
